ATLANTA, GA — The ATL Now — Rising country-rock star Jackson Dean delivers a deeply moving tribute to one of music's most iconic voices with "My Cross To Bear," the emotionally charged closing theme for the new documentary Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul.

Directed by Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning filmmaker James Keach, the documentary explores the extraordinary life, music, struggles, and triumphs of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legend Gregg Allman. The film arrives in theaters nationwide for a special one-night event on June 17, bringing audiences an intimate look at the man whose voice helped define Southern rock.

When Keach sought a song capable of capturing the emotional weight of Allman's remarkable journey, he turned to Oscar-nominated and Grammy-winning producer Julian Raymond. The result was "My Cross To Bear," a haunting and reflective ballad performed by Jackson Dean that serves as both a tribute and emotional farewell to the legendary musician.

"Gregg Allman lived a life that was so much larger than life, both the highs and the lows," Dean said. "For me, I wanted to honor him, put everything I had into it, and let the power of who he was move through me."

The song examines the burdens, heartbreaks, victories, and resilience that shaped Allman's life. Opening with sparse instrumentation and building into an emotionally sweeping orchestral arrangement, Dean's gravel-toned vocals capture the spirit of a man who experienced immense success while enduring profound personal loss.

Producer Julian Raymond explained that the song's minimal arrangement was intentional.

"The blues is a place where you can create so many emotions," Raymond said. "Often, the less you say, the more you feel. When you add Jackson's voice, his ability to channel pain and regret, but also the honor of facing it all head on, that's where the soul of Gregg's life becomes real."

The lyrics reflect the emotional complexity of Allman's journey, touching on love, family, loss, redemption, and self-discovery. Dean's performance channels the same raw authenticity that made Allman one of the most beloved voices in American music.

The documentary premiered at New York City's Gramercy Theatre before making its way to Georgia's historic Grand Opera House in Macon, a fitting location given Allman's deep connection to the state and the legacy of The Allman Brothers Band.

Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul features rare archival footage, intimate interviews, and candid reflections from Allman himself, creating a powerful portrait of an artist who helped shape American music for more than five decades.

From timeless classics such as "Midnight Rider," "Whipping Post," "Melissa," and "Ain't Wastin' Time No More" to his enduring influence on generations of musicians, Allman's impact remains immeasurable. The documentary and Dean's moving tribute song ensure that his story and spirit continue to resonate with audiences for years to come.
